Laikipia Wildlife Foundation
Between Mount Kenya and Samburu lies the remote and scenic Laikipia region. Encompassing a wide range of stunning landscapes, including a high altitude plateau, forested valleys and deep rocky river gorges, the area is a sanctuary for a wealth of game including elephants, lions and leopards as well as being home to endangered species such as reticulated giraffe and Grevy zebras.
The Laikipia area is a world leader in conservation and eco-tourism. There are no national parks or reserves here, all the conservation initiatives have been undertaken privately whereby the local Samburu and Maasai communities have joined forces with the settlers and ranchers to create a wildlife haven. The land is managed in ways that respect traditional lifestyles, whilst meeting the needs of wildlife and producing revenues from tourism.
The safari lodges in Laikipia are some of the most luxurious in Kenya and the safari experience an exclusive one.
