Elephant-Selous-Game-Reserve
Description
The vast untamed paradise of Selous is the largest unexploited wildlife area in Africa, and the second largest in the world. Its general inaccessibility, combined with the fact that no human habitation is allowed within its boundaries, has ensured a magnificent refuge for animals, birds, insects and reptiles, rendering it the ultimate African wilderness. Here some of Africa's finest virgin bush, unchanged throughout thousands of years, is inhabited by three-quarters of a million wild animals, second in number only to the Serengeti. There are large numbers of buffaloes, crocodiles and hippos as well as relatively high numbers of lions and rhinos. The vast south of the park remains largely unfrequented, but a section of the northern park along the Rufiji River has been designated a photographic zone and is a popular tourist destination Selous is also good for walking as well as boat safaris which enable one to get close to hippos and giant crocodiles. Rather difficult road access means most visitors arrive by air.
